material making

CMF is not just visual, but also deals with all other senses. Through my projects and internships, I’ve dealt with the creation of sensory, haptic, or even olfactory materials through making custom trim materials and painting and color matching paint samples, just to name a few.

Custom material/trim making- Emphasis on sustainability and celebrating native material properties

Custom Material-

Portuguese Cork Substrate (Base)

Application: IP Lower

Ground Cork Panels, Mixed with resin mold (to form physical shape), sanded to achieve desired roughness and hand. Sourced specific cork panel to get natural scent and desired honest, substrated look

Custom Material-

Gold Flake Decorative Trimpiece

Application: IP Upper Trim

In order to achieve an alternative, more genuine variant of a gold finish I’ve gone with a more substrated form of gold, also tying into the user story (California Gold Rush, gold pellets) Also sanded to achieve a more raw, genuine look (gloss vs satin!)

Custom Material-

Upcycled Nylon Cord Parametric Deco Trim

Application: IP Upper Trim

To complement the active lifestyle and top sports trim level, I took inspiration from activewear to find a sustainable and alternative interpretation of creating a layered, parametric pattern for the decorative trim piece.
